A group of 9/11
victims' relatives who've pledged to make their
voices heard are using a new method - songs.
A handful of family members lent their voices to
two songs - "Wake Up Everybody" and
"I Cried" - that condemn the Sept. 11
terror attacks and the pain they caused.
New York producer Terry E. Lewis said the songs
were recorded with a hip-hop group called
"Angels with Broken Wings" - and that
three-quarters of the royalties will be devoted to
a coalition of family members representing
victims' relatives.
"It's sending a message," Lewis said.
Bill Doyle, who lost his son in the World Trade
Center attacks and sings on the album, said the
proceeds will be used for 9/11 family members'
health-care needs, costs of the coalition's effort
to spread information, and even the permanent
tribute that will eventually be at Ground Zero.
"I think [Lewis] is very sincere," said
Doyle, who organized the families who are involved
in the project.
He added that the producer is trying "to do a
good thing for the families."
Monica Iken, a WTC widow and co-founder of
September's Mission, said she agreed to sing on
the album because she wanted to support things
"that help to continue what we're doing, our
work with newsletters [and creating] an
information source for the families."
