GROUP AD POSTING POLICY
==========================================================
In the continuous effort to limit the amount of SPAM posted to the
Group, the Group Moderators have developed an Ad Policy which
all members need to be aware of. Essentially, Advertisements
are messages sent by Group Members to promote a site, sale,
service, or auction. Ads must be Group Related and on topic.
Some examples of Ads include, but are not limited to:
a - Ebay, Yahoo, or other auctions
b - Items for sale, or service, on your website
c - Advertising for someone else's site or
auction
d - Professional, Organizational, Charitable
Sites
Swaps & Crop information are not included under this section.
:
1. If you plan to send a message to the group which falls under
the criteria outlined here, the Message must begin with "AD"
in
the subject.
2. Members can Only place Ads on Tuesday, as this is the
designated Ad day for the group.
3. If you are not sure something you are sending is an Ad,
send it to one of the group moderators (see group
addresses)
and we will let you know:
4. If you are running a special or date sensitive Ad that needs
to be posted on a day other than Tuesday, send it to one of the
Group Moderators FIRST for Approval
5. You are expected to be a participating member of this list,
in order to place ads. As the List Moderators, we don't want
to see your name pop up only posting Ads and not
participating or otherwise contributing to the group.
6. If you fail to follow the guidelines for the Group Ad Policy::
1st Offense - privately
emailed warning, copy of Ad Policy
attached
2nd Offense - placed on
moderated status for 30, 60, or 90
Days, which means your posts will require a
Group Moderator's Approval before going
out to the group.
3rd Offense - Banned from
Group (3 strikes you're out)
Banned from the Group is Permanent!

BOUNCING MEMBERS
==========================================================
If group messages sent to your email address are returned to Yahoo!
Groups as undeliverable ("bouncing"), your Yahoo! Groups
account may be
temporarily disabled.
To see if you are "Bouncing" messages and unable to receive
posts go to:
http://groups.yahoo.com/myprefs
Messages can be returned for several reasons:
Mailbox may be full - try deleting messages from your Inbox.
Invalid Email Address - Disabled or Terminated by User or ISP
ISP may have a backlog of email to process - contact your ISP.
ISP may be blocking email from Yahoo! Groups - contact your ISP.
ISP mail server problem - crashed, broke down, or hacked
How to Avoid or Eliminate Bouncing Messages
Know the size limit of your Inbox. If you are not sure contact
your ISP or
Email Adminstrator for this information. Remove messages when
possible
to keep them from accumulating to your Inbox limit. You may want
to change
your message delivery to "Daily Digest", this can make a big
difference if
you are subscribed to multiple groups, Perhaps have different email
addresses for each group, or change to "No Email" and read
posts from the
archives on the web.
When you change email addresses, make sure you go into Yahoo Account
Management and make the changes. You can do that here:
http://login.yahoo.com/config/eval_profile
(Requires Yahoo ID and Password)
Check with your ISP or Email Adminstrator to determine if Group Messages
are being interpreted as SPAM and therefore are being blocked.
How to Reactivate a Bouncing Account
As soon as your email address bounces a message back to the Yahoo
Groups server, a test message is sent to you. It it doesn't get
returned,
nothing happens. If it is returned your email address is
suspended. In some
cases you need to manually reactivate your account.
First go to http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups
(you'll need your Yahoo ID &
Password) and check the email address you are subscribed to the group
with. If that is incorrect, click on "Edit My Groups"
and make the changes.
Next click on "Email Preferences" and check on your Status and
Bounce
History. If you are bouncing click on the link and follow the
directions. You
will be sent a confirmation email by Yahoo. After you respond to
the email
and verify your email is receiving properly you should be reinstated.
Yahoo also provides a page for help, see the link below:

POW, MIA, KIA POLICY
==========================================================
* No images (or links to images) of soldiers in prison, dead, going
through torture, or being beaten, nor are pictures of soldiers after
they have gone through such treatment to be posted to the group at any
time.
* AFTER the families have been notified
(a minimum of 72 hours according to the Geneva convention guidelines)
photos of soldiers and family members are allowed on list. Make sure
that these photos were taken PRIOR to their deployment and do not
contain any graphic or disturbing images. Names or other forms of
identification of these soldiers are not to be discussed on list until
the minimum 72 hours is up.
*prayer requests, list discussions, and
appropriate articles about our POWs, MIAs, and soldiers KIA, and their
families are permitted. Please read the article closely to make sure
that no graphic or disturbing information about what treatment those
soldiers are receiving is being presented.
* No articles, list discussion, or links
to articles are to be posted in regards to the specific rape/ torture
that the POWs are going through. The Group is not a place for gossip,
and we do not want our soldiers or their families to be victimized
twice.
If you have an article that you think the
list might benefit from, but are unsure if it follows the list
guidelines, please send the article privately to either one of the list
moderators for approval before you post it to the list. If you have any
questions about these guidelines you can send a private email to the one
of the list moderators. (see Group Addresses)

SAVING ARCHIVE SPACE
==========================================================
Yahoo has set limits on New Groups to 32MB for Message Archives, while
old groups still enjoy the 512MB space. This has clearly put a
strain on
Group Moderators to maintain and streamline archive space.
1 Send Plain Text emails where possible. While
HTML emails are
more attractive, to most, they do take up a
lot more space. Since
the email client has to render varying fonts,
sizes, colors, image
backgrounds, etc. There is also the risk
that some will not be able
to view your post or the post will not be
displayed correctly, since
clients handle HTML formatting
differently. Examples of Email
Clients are: AOL, Outlook, Outlook
Express, Netscape, Eudora,
Pegasus, Incredimail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, etc.
2 When sending a link to a page you want the group to visit,
avoid
attaching the html page to the email.
Simply place the link to the
page in your post. Each additional piece
of information you send
takes up valuable space. If you have more than
one link, place
each one on a separate line and perhaps
include a brief
description, as opposed to sending one link per
post. One 2KB
post as opposed to 2 or 3 2KB posts.
3 Members are expected to "Clean Up" messages when
Forwarding or
in Replying to messages in the group.
Which would include information
of the original sender, ISP embedded or
other Advertisements, or any
other non pertinent information. If you
need to reference something
from an earlier message, Only include that
information and nothing else.
(If you are unsure how to go about this, Please
ask!)
This is in an effort to not only save space,
but to eliminate the repetitive
and redundant sending of the same message in
forwards and replies.
1st Time -
emailed privatel and reminded of rules
2nd Time - Placed
on Moderated Posting Status
3rd Time -
Posting Priviliges Removed Permanently
4 Yahoo Groups has set a limit on the size of posts.
If you attempt
to send any post larger than 1MB or 1024KB, it
will be rejected by
Yahoo Groups. When you attach any file to
your message, there
is something called "overhead" that
you need to be aware of.
This is the encoding from the email client to
make the file
transmittable over the internet. Which
amounts to adding 37% of
the original file on top of the original
file. See Example Below:
Original
